Fakenham Town Band

2nd Trombone - Tony Grover

Tony began playing trombone in his school orchestra when he was 12 years old, and managed to reach Grade 5 before he left. He stopped playing when he joined the Police. On retiring after 30 years service, he joined Fakenham Town Band and learned the trombone again, and has been playing with the main band now for 14 years.

Tony used to play the drums with friends from school, but only for fun! He played the side drum and bass drum with the Boys Brigade Company when he was a teenager. Tony hasn't played with any other brass bands, although when he has been away visiting other parts of the country he has visited other bands rehearsal evenings.

Tony enjoys big band music, together with music from films, TV and musicals. He also likes R&B, jazz funk, smooth jazz, classical and of course brass band music!

On speaking about Fakenham Town Band, Tony says that he likes the way that brass bands can perform all genres of music, it's far from the marches and hymns that are generally associated with brass.

Tony enjoys playing concerts to people who show that they have really enjoyed what we have been doing, and says it is the best feeling and it happens again and again.

Tony notes that everyone responds differently to music, whether they know it or not. He says you are never too old to learn, and would encourage anyone to pick up an instrument no matter which one it might be. Playing music is great fun, and we all like to have fun!
