Fakenham Town Band

Tony Grover - 1st Trombone

Tony joined Fakenham Town Band in November 2004 after several months nurturing his skills at the band's Monday night workshops.

Tony is not new to brass playing as he played at school between 1967 and 1971 where he achieved Grade 5. Other musical experience has been in the form of playing the side drum when in the Boys' Brigade. The town band is Tony's first venture into the world of playing in brass bands.

As well as playing with the band, Tony's enjoys musical concerts, theatre (mainly musicals) and caravanning.

Tony well remembers his first concert with the band: "Joining the band at the ripe old age of 49 and being referred to by the band conductor as being the ‘oldest juvenile’ whilst serving my ‘apprenticeship’ in the Junior Band section at my first Christmas Concert amused a lot of people."

Tony says that being part of Fakenham Town Band is really good fun. "I like being in the band because it is fun to play with such a wide age group of band members. The younger members keep me on my toes and I can pretend to be a ‘grumpy old man’ with the older ones. Playing music for myself and the public is a fantastic thing to be able to do."

Tony offers some great advice for anyone wanting to join the band; "If anyone were to ask my advice about the secret of life, I would say to them ‘be yourself in whatever you do and do everything to the best of your ability. But overall, NEVER GROW UP!."
