Solo Cornet - Brian Lewis

Brian started playing cornet at the age of 8 (a long time ago) with Skewen Salvation Army Band. After few years he moved on to euphonium.

On getting married to Margaret and moving to her home town, Brian returned to cornet, playing with Gorseinon SA Band.

In 1970 Brian moved to Norfolk and played cornet with Fakenham SA Band and then took the baton for both Senior and Junior Bands for a number of years.

2002 saw one of the highlights of his recent banding career when he brought both bands in Fakenham together in a musical programme. This collabaration was an early step in the close relationship that the bands have today. This is something that we are very grateful for and has certainly contributed Fakenham Town Band's recent success.

Another highlight was winning Class A Championship in 2003, which was Brian's first experience of contesting. It is unlikely that Brian's participation and the fact that Fakenham were the winning band are unconnected.

Brian recalls the time he was leading the SA Band at a Harvest Celebration concert. There was a table full of produce between the band and himself. In a moment of energetic conducting, he brought his hand up catching a plate of fresh eggs. Two of them were sent through the band, while another rolled on to a newly laid red carpet! "No yoke, only egg on my face!"
