Went to Sandringham on Sunday 22nd July. It's the first time I'd heard the band and really enjoyed it's performance. My Grandfather was a Solo Cornet player with Stotfold Salvation Army Band for many years so I've grown up with brass. He had an offer many years ago to join The Black Dyke Mills Band but his religious beleifs kept him in the army. He was also in the RAF and played at the funeral march of the R101 airship from RAF Henlow to RAF Cardington and this was something he was very proud of. Sadly my Grandad is no longer with us but he lived until his 98th year and played until his early nineties. Thankyou for your entertainment on Sunday it brought back many happy memories for me.

Hello Fakenham Town Band.
I was shown a copy of The Sound of Fakenham by a neighbour yesterday and wanted to pass on my congratulations to the author.I was impressed with the clear content, making it very enjoyable to read.It would be rewarding for Lynette if someone could help in finding the information that is missing.
If I can be so bold,I would like to suggest one change to the book, and that is the author needs her own page at the back with a photograph so readers can see who has written this fantastic book.
This lady is obviously a dedicated member of your band. I trust that she has been deservedly rewarded for her hours and hours of work that it must have taken to complete this book. She deserves the utmost praise and respect.
I would like to attend your next concert and give my congratulations in person. Well done again.

Had to come back on. your 1927 photo was interesting. My first bandmaster in 1955 was the son of J Ord Hume, Sidney Ord Hume. He was also a sucsessful composer while BM of the 1st Northamptons and then after his wife died at an early age and he had to look after his children he took control of the E Anglan division bopys school at Quebec Brks Northampton which took boys from regiments such as Norfolks Essex Beds & Hearts Northamptons Lincolns Liecesters to mention just a few. He also conducted Northampton town Band and the Northampton choral society. A lot of now retiring Brass bandsmen like myself owe their musical carrer to Sidney, who is fondly remebered. Also interesting to note that my daughter and new wife both use Dallas Tutors, Dalls was a publishing name for J Ord Hume.

Dear Fakenham Town Band,
I am delighted to see some evocative photographs from the Edwardian era on your web-site.
My grandfather, Arnold Middleton, was a composer of the period and his music had been arranged for brass bands by J.Ord. Hume. (Middleton composed under a pseudonym ‘Arnold Safroni’ and is best remembered for his march ‘Imperial Echoes’) The pictures are wonderful - a reminder of the musicians that might well have played his music.

Thanks for your kind words Geoff.
We are very fortunate to have a large number of dedicated, talented young (school-aged) musicians in the band. The biggest satisfaction for us is hearing the band develop as these players increase their capability.
It truly is a shame that the contest is not well-supported. Hearing our band play concert music last night after 4-5 months of pure contest rehearsal proved that the challenge of contests raises the standard in a unique way.
